The most widely used instrument in almost every region of Turkish folk music is a wooden string instrument with seven and nine strings, about two octaves wide, played with a plectrum. It is estimated that the word Long Neck Saz was first used in the 18th century. The name of the instrument is thought to be inspired by the combination of the frets and strings on the handle. The most commonly used long neck baglama types are more than one variety; cura, collapse, dombra, two strings, and tanbur. The setting pattern varies greatly depending on the region in which it is performed.
The long neck baglama consists of three main parts; boat, chest, handle. The boat part is usually made of mulberry wood. However, in addition to the mulberry tree, juniper, chestnut, walnut, and hornbeam are also made from trees. Its chest is made of spruce, its trunk is made of hornbeam, white hornbeam, or juniper.
