What is Clarinet?

The clarinet is a woodwind instrument. It is invented by Johann Christoph Denner at the start of the 18. century. It was similar to chalumeau that sounded nice at lower registers and also clarinet has been rich sounds as well as low and high registers. However, clarinet means small trumpet because "clarino" word means trumpet. 

The clarinet had only two keys until 18. century and then more keys were added to it. So, clarinet increased its own characteristic sounds, ıt was played more easily. It has been made of different materials but the mostly used element is boxwood. The standard clarinet has been made by Klose based on Boehm in 19. Century. 

For clarinet making, grenadilla is used material. Grenadilla has a higher density and suitable than boxwood. That type of wood is also known as Brya ebenus, cocuswood or West Indıan ebony. But plastic clarinets are better resistant to rain and sunshine. Even so, most of the clarinet players prefer one of wooden because of sound richer.

Although you may find metal clarinets which sound very different from wooden or plastic clarinets in Turkish and Greek, its difference is barely audible. Metal clarinets are lighter than others because of thinness.

The types of clarinet include various sizes and sounds. But they are similar clarinet instruments like piccolo clarinet, bass clarinet and contrabass clarinet.
