    Choosing the right case

The right case is the one that matches how you actually travel with the drum. There are three working protection levels:

    Level Protection Use Examples
    Padded gig bag Light to moderate impact + bumps Lessons, rehearsals, taxi rides, regular travel SAFE-302, RAM-2, BGD-105 / 106 / 109 / 110, HTB-305
Padded structured case Moderate drops + airline overhead Domestic flights, touring Emin EPC-006
Hard / flight case Maximum β€” checked baggage rated International flights, ceramic drums, long tours UHD-202, UHD-204, FLY-4

If you own a clay darbuka, skip straight to padded structured or hard case β€” ceramic does not survive checked baggage in a soft bag.

Replacement heads β€” which brand, which size?

Three brands of replacement synthetic head fit our darbukas. Each has a slightly different feel and sound; all three hold up well to humidity and tuning.

Brand Best for Sizes available Price tier
Emin Percussion EPS-002 Egyptian darbukas (most popular replacement) 22 cm, 23 cm (Clear / White / Ice) $52.90
    Emin Percussion EPS-001 Classic Emin darbukas (EP-001 series) 22 cm, 25.5 cm, 30.5 cm $52.99 - 62.99
Mitello Doumbek 8.75" Budget replacement, fits standard 22 cm 22 cm only $24.99
Remo Skyndeep 8.75" Brightest tone, durable for performers 22 cm only $39.99

If you do not know the diameter of your current head, the standard solo is 22 cm (8.75 in), sombaty is 23 cm (9 in), medium bass is around 25 cm, and large bass / doholla is 25 cm or larger. Measure across the inside diameter of the rim, not the outside of the head.

Stands β€” should you get one?

For solo practice and casual playing, the drum sits on your leg. A stand becomes useful for: (1) studio recording where you want consistent positioning, (2) sit-down sessions longer than an hour where the drum on the leg gets uncomfortable, (3) playing standing up on stage, and (4) protecting a clay drum from accidental knocks during breaks. The CSK-302 fits every darbuka in our store and most tombaks.

Compatibility β€” will it fit my drum?

All our standard-size cases and heads fit the standard 22 cm solo darbuka (the most common size). For other sizes, check the product page or contact us with your drum's measurements. If your drum is not from our store, send us a photo and the head diameter and we will confirm fit before you order.

    FAQ

How do I know what size head my darbuka needs?

Measure the inside diameter of the rim with a ruler β€” the metal edge where the head sits, not the outside of the shell. Most Egyptian and Turkish solo darbukas are 22 cm (8.75 in). Sombaty is 23 cm. Bass models are 25 cm or larger. If you bought your darbuka from us, the size is in the product description β€” or send us the product name and we will tell you.

How long does a darbuka head last?

Synthetic heads typically last 2-5 years of regular playing before they need replacing. Signs to watch: the head loses its bounce, the tek becomes dull instead of ringing, hairline cracks appear near the rim. A worn head will not tune up properly β€” that is usually the first sign.

Can I replace the head myself?

Yes, on tunable synthetic heads. Loosen all lugs, lift off the old head and rim hardware, place the new head, replace the rim hardware, and tune up gradually going around the lugs. The second time takes about fifteen minutes. Natural goat or fish skin replacement on clay darbukas is a luthier job, not DIY.

Which darbuka case do I really need?

For weekly lessons, rehearsals and short trips, the padded gig bag SAFE-302 is the most popular choice. If you fly with the drum or travel internationally, step up to a hard case (UHD-204) or full flight case (FLY-4). For a clay darbuka, always use at least padded structured or hard β€” ceramic does not tolerate impact.

    Do darbuka stands fit tombaks?

The CSK-302 stand is designed for both darbuka and tombak; the adjustable soft-foam arms accommodate either drum's shell shape. The CSK-306 is the tombak-specific variant with arms shaped for the tombak's narrower waist. Both work for either drum; the CSK-306 is the better fit if your main instrument is a tombak.

What is included with a new darbuka from your store?

Every darbuka ships with the tuning key needed to adjust the lugs, plus a soft cover or basic gig bag depending on the model. The included case is the lightest tier (dust and scratch protection); if you carry the drum out of the house, plan to upgrade to a padded gig bag or hard case from this collection.

    Do you ship accessories worldwide?

Yes. Accessories ship in the same shipment as your darbuka order at no extra cost, or as standalone orders worldwide. Free standard shipping delivers in 3–5 weeks. Express shipping is available at extra cost and typically arrives in 3–5 business days. Small accessories (skins, tuning keys) ship without issue.

What if I order the wrong size head?

Email us within 14 days of delivery. If the head is unopened, we exchange it for the correct size at no cost beyond return shipping. Once a synthetic head has been stretched onto a drum, it can no longer be returned.
