The PDR-101 is a pre-tuned daf. HaPa makes pre-tuned dafs with different frame widths to offer players a choice of playing feel and tonal character.
The frame is made from carved wooden segments rather than bent wood. HaPa describes its pre-tuned frames as being built from 36 pieces, and its tunable frames from 60 pieces. This construction is intended to help the frame retain its shape.
The drumhead is a synthetic Remo membrane known as “Fish Skin”. Its appearance and playing feel resemble natural skin, but it is not made from fish skin.
