What Are The Features?         

The ghaychak was the only stringed musical instrument found in the Pamirs. It is made from the wood of the apricot tree. The leather is stretched inside the drum to act as a solid table; it also has a thin board covering the bowl. The soundbox can be metal or wooden and has three or four metal strings and a neck made of willow, apricot, and mulberry wood. Tuned in quadruplets, this instrument has a soundbox carved from a single piece of wood. The bow attached to a curved stick is made of horsehair.

The ghaychak is made to be played vertically rather than horizontally and is, therefore, a spiked violin. It can be played by putting the head on your leg, the neck in your left hand, and holding the bow with your right hand. This musical instrument can make a sweet sound, and its sound is a decoration.

What is the History of Gheychak?    

In the early Uyghur Oral histories, the Ghaychak was conceived as a bow and arrow. Its initial public offering was in China during the Song Dynasty (960-1279CE). The musical instrument seemed to have been developed with the well-known Persian Gijak, but it was still unique. Over time, the Ghaychak was standardized in a short neck form, typically with two string strings and ten sympathetic strings, as noted by Qing Dynasty scholars. Later, it was standardized as four strings by the Uyghur masters, and its tone was adapted to the western scale.
