It is known that it came from Mesopotamian lands in ancient times. This musical instrument was also found in the excavations of the Sumerians from ancient civilizations. Ney, whose history is very old, is also preferred in religious music of Turkish culture. What is Ney?
Consisting of one piece, nine knuckles, Ney is made of a reed. There are 7 holes on it, the curtain. The music produced is a special cane with yellow knots. In the first and last knuckles of Ney prepared in this way, bracelets called parasite are worn. These bracelets are made of gold, silver or brass.

How To Choose Turkish Ney?

My parents offered me a Mansur ney (La), and i am just discovering this beautiful instrument… Starting to product sourds slowly.
The ney is amazingly beautiful, yet i have an issue: i feel the thumb hole is far away from the other holes to reach for my hands. I manage to reach them but at the moment I have to put a lot of tension in my hands to do it and it hurts. Is it normal and is it just a question of training or is it that this ney is too big for me..? I hope it’s not the case…
