Why factory-installed beats aftermarket pickups
Adding a pickup to an acoustic guitar after the fact almost always degrades the acoustic tone — the soundboard gets a new hole, the bracing absorbs vibration from cables, and most aftermarket piezo systems hum without an active preamp. The KG-5 is built around its electronics from the start: the saddle slot, bracing pattern, and battery compartment are designed for the system, and the active preamp is shielded inside the body. You get clean amplified signal AND the same acoustic projection as our non-electric models.

Does the pickup require a separate preamp pedal?
No — the active preamp is built into the body, powered by the included 9V battery. Plug directly into any PA, mixer, or amplifier with a standard 1/4-inch cable.
How long does the battery last?
A standard alkaline 9V lasts 80–120 hours of plugged-in play. Battery is only drawn when a cable is plugged in — unplug between sessions to extend life.
Can I record the unplugged acoustic sound and the pickup at the same time?
Yes — many studio engineers do exactly this. Mic the soundhole, take a DI from the pickup, and mix the two signals.
What's the difference in fretting between the KG-5 and KG?
None — both use the same fixed 24-tone equal temperament fretting. The KG-5 difference is purely the addition of the EQ pickup system.
